Bree has a genetic condition called Trisomy 13. This means that she has an extra 13th chromosome in every one of her cells. The way that this manifests in every child is different. Bree has a variety of different types of disabilities. She has low muscle tone and has sight loss, so she can only perceive light. She also experiences the world in a very different way than others. She is one of the happiest kids you will ever meet, getting so much enjoyment out of every day sensory experiences and the love from her family.
Bree attends kindergarten with the support of her WeeCare nurse. Being in that environment gives her a lot of sensory stimulation—sounds, movement, different textures, and the presence of other children—which she responds to well. While she engages with the day in her own way, she enjoys being part of that setting and the routine it provides.
At home, Bree spends time playing alongside her sister and being with our family. She enjoys close interaction, familiar voices, and shared moments, even when they’re simple or quiet. One of her favourite things—and something that almost always brings out a smile—is listening to children’s songs. Music, especially familiar songs like Mr. Golden Sun and Twinkle Twinkle Little Star, really captures her attention and seems to bring her comfort and joy.
Overall, Bree’s days are centred around sensory experiences, family connection, and routines that help her feel safe and engaged.
